Letter from the Director
Darcy Komejan-Babcock

It is with mixed emotions that I embark on a capital campaign for a new facility to house the Children's Advocacy Center. It was only seven short years ago that I had the privilege of working with nearly 500 Herman Miller employees, area contractors, and concerned citizens to transform the vacant house at 280 East 8th Street into what is now warmly referred to as "The Big Blue House".  What seemed an impossible task quickly became a reality...a safe haven for children to disclose their abuse to a team of caring and dedicated professionals.  Unfortunately, within a short period of time "The Big Blue House" just wasn't big enough to provide adequate space for the multitude of services critical to child victims of abuse and their supportive family members.  For several years the Board of Directors, staff, and multi-disciplinary team have attempted to creatively meet the needs as best as possible, keenly aware that much more could be done if given the chance to expand.  With the planned redevelopment of the Eastern Gateway to Holland requiring the demolition of our existing facility, we have had no choice but to proceed with our plans to build.  With the tremendous support from Prins Construction and Development, GMB Architects/Engineers, and Driesenga and Associates as well as a significant lead gift from Ed and Nancy Hanenburg, we are on our way to a new facility!  Our new home will be located at 12125 Union Street (off Waverly/120th between James and Felch) . This facility will meet all of the specialized needs of children in a safe and warm environment.

I would like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to all of you who have worked so hard to raise money for this project, and to those of you who have already given so generously through contributions or multi-year pledges.  We are well on our way to making our goal!  With the continued support of this extremely charitable county, I have no doubt that this goal will result in a new and much improved Children's Advocacy Center.
